On February 7, Armenia's Ambassador to India, Vahagn Afyan, participated in the opening of the 38th Surajkund International Crafts Mela, where Armenia is once again represented with a separate pavilion this year.

At the opening of this year’s festival, which runs until February 23, welcoming speeches were made by India’s Minister of Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and Haryana's Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini.

This annual event, held in the area near the city of Faridabad in Haryana, India, has traditionally seen the participation of artisans from the "Arar" program of the Museum of Folk Art named after Hovhannes Sharambeyan. These artisans showcase Armenian textiles such as carpets, embroidery, and works made of tapestry, as well as samples of decorative-applied arts and souvenirs. The Armenian pavilion also offers workshops in handmade crafts.

The festival, named "Lake of the Sun," aims to enhance intercultural and folk art awareness and features performances from various states of India, as well as over fifty other countries.

At the closing ceremony, Armenia was awarded the 2nd prize for the “Best Foreign Pavilion” for the first time, which was awarded to the master embroiderer Armenuhi Khachatryan of the Museum of Folk Art named after Hovhannes Sharambeyan by Manohar Lal Khattar, the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs of India․
